Life in the Foreign Service

I'm taking the train this afternoon to meet my girlfriend for a Valentine's weekend in Paris.  Pretty sure this is what I imagined when I signed up for this job.

    If I may ask, does State Department send you to your first post as soon as you're done with your training? Or there is a waiting period?
